Product Care

Antique Paper

  • Store papers in a cool, dry, dark environment
  • Heat and humidity can cause paper to become brittle or mouldy, and extended exposure to light can cause fading or yellowing
  • Store papers in archival grade containers
  • Boxes, paper sleeves, folders, or mats should always be preservation quality. When purchasing storage materials, look for specific terms that indicate stability such as low-lignin, lignin-free and buffered throughout
  • Stable plastics made of uncoated polyester film such as Melinex ; polyethylene or polypropylene can also be used
  • Newspaper is acidic and can cause damage to other papers
  • For safer long-term preservation of all paper antiques, photocopy onto high-quality archival, acid-free paper for display
  • Store paper flat, not folded or rolled - Rolled papers can become very difficult to unroll later, and folded papers will often tear along the folds

Jewellery

  • Keep it away from wood

Avoid leaving your jewellery on chemically treated surfaces or on wood which can stain or speed up the tarnishing process.

  • Keep your jewellery dry and away from skincare

Don’t wear your jewellery then apply lotions, perfume or hairspray. Try not to wear jewellery when you go swimming or at the sauna.

  • Avoid leaving it in sunlight

The colour of some gemstones will become dull when exposed to too much light and heat.

  • Keep jewellery separate from other jewellery

Precious metals scratch easily. Keep pieces separate to reduce instances of scratching.

    • Give it a wipe

At the end of the day, wipe your jewellery with a anti-tarnish cloth before storing it away. This will make sure any lingering moisture, oils or dust is gone.

    • Use dishwashing soap and warm water

For pieces that are dull, filmy, or starting to discolour, mix a few drops of mild dish soap with warm water and rub the jewelry with a soft cloth. Rinse in cool water and buff with a cloth until dry.
